RM Propulsion is an independent service company for the marine industry.

2012 – Founded by Robin Mulders

Robin launched RM Propulsion as a self-employed service engineer, focusing on stern tube seals and propulsion system maintenance. While his father handled the bookkeeping and administrative support. This blend of technical and family commitment shaped the company’s values from day one.

In the early years, RM Propulsion worked with third-party seal manufacturers, always ensuring the highest quality while maintaining independence from OEM constraints.

Nowadays, we exclusively work with our own stern tube seals, the Ocean Seal,  developed by Robin Mulders and successfully used in the field for several years.

2015 – Headquarters in Hoorn, North Holland

Growing demand led to a move into a dedicated facility in Hoorn, where RM Propulsion’s headquarters remain today. This transition marked the company’s professional expansion.

2016 – Launch of the Ocean Seal

Based on years of hands-on experience, Robin designed and introduced the Ocean Seal, RM Propulsion’s own stern tube seal system, developed to:

• Be fully compatible with well-known systems (Simplex, Kemel, Kobelco, Wärtsilä, Lagersmit)

• Meet custom specifications for durability and performance

• Carry type approvals and meet ISO 9001 manufacturing standards

All Ocean Seals are made in Europe and are held in stock, ensuring fast delivery to global customers.

2017 – Becoming a Family Business

In 2017, Robin’s wife joined the company, supporting administration and operations. This marked the start of RM Propulsion as a family-run company.

2018 – Thruster Services Introduced

RM Propulsion expanded its services in 2018 to include thruster repair. With a growing team of experienced engineers, many with over 10 to 20 years of expertise, we now support all major thruster brands with confidence.

2022 – The Next Generation Joins

Robin’s daughter joined RM Propulsion in 2022, expanding the company’s backoffice team and reinforcing its identity as a multi-generational marine business.

2022–2023 – In-House Testing Facility

To further raise quality standards, RM Propulsion built its own testing facility between 2022 and 2023, allowing for:

• Seal performance testing

• Oil compatibility validation with EALs and mineral oils

This facility reflects RM Propulsion’s dedication to engineering control and long-term reliability.

As international demand grew, RM Propulsion established a network of trusted local agents in:
